Homeless for a Month/Jun/08
I was homeless from June 6th 2008 to July 4th 2008 in Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison WI. I tried to get into a VA transitional program in Milwaukee Wi and the social worker sent me to the mental ward because of what I shared about my faith and calling. The psychiatrist phoned the social worker and chewed her out for sending me. I was denied transitional housing; and left laughing because of what happened. She tried to have me committed for my faith!!
I went to Madison WI; and stayed in a men's shelter. I had a lot of free time to pray in the parks during the day; and made friends at the shelter. I shared with my friends about my mission to the homeless. I've never stayed in a shelter before; and this was a good experience. I hit the other areas in Madison that the homeless congregated for services, and attended church in a Methodist church, that fed the homeless. I also lived out of my truck; and experienced the hardships associated with that. I shared with and ministered to several people at the parks and shelter, before the Lord sent me back to Chicago. The money to get to Chicago was wired to me; and the Lord led me to the Door of Hope Rescue Mission in South Chicago. Jesus led me, and cared for my needs during that month, before reaching the Rescue Mission.
