May 5-98: I was bringing water back to camp from the gas station on a small cart and was crossing the parking lot. Note: (I didn’t know about the outside water nozzle at the pizza hut for 6 months and had to carry water about a block). An El Cerrito cop saw me and turned into the lot to run a check.
I left the water under the tree and was inside camp when he approached the tree and asked me to come out and talk to him. I complied and he ran a check on my drivers license. He then came into camp and searched the place for weapons. He then asked me what I was doing there; and I told him about my ministry to the homeless, and then gave him a tract. He accepted the tract and wrote my website on the tract. He was surprised with my answer but he believed me, and said he wouldn’t bother me anymore if Pizza Hut didn’t have a problem with me; and said to be careful out here.
I told him that I had permission from Pizza hut manager; who I talked to
about my ministry. The Lord also put a burden on me to buy all 10 pizza
hut employees a gift certificate for the Mexican restaurant next door prior
to this incident. The Money was sent by a Christian brother from Alaska,
and this replaced the cost. The brother had no knowledge of this. The cop
did say he was going to check with pizza hut; and he never returned.
